Hot on the heels of director Stephen Daldry’s four Oscar nods The Reader and his Best Director Tony nomination for Billy Elliot comes the announcement of a West End revival of his hit production of An Inspector Calls. The play, which is currently touring the U.K., will run for eight weeks, September 22-November 14, at the Novello Theatre, where Spring Awakening will end its run on May 30.
Daldry’s Olivier and Evening Standard Award-winning revival of J.B. Priestley’s 1945 thriller originally premiered at the National Theatre in 1992 before transferring to the West End and, subsequently, to Broadway. The 1994 Broadway production earned four Tony Awards, including Best Revival, Best Director, Best Featured Actress Jane Adams and Best Lighting Design for Rick Fisher Tony-nominated for Billy Elliot, who has recreated his dark, stormy palettes for this new version. Designer Ian McNeil another Billy Elliot Tony nominee has also reproduced his original Inspector period sets and costumes.
West End casting information has yet to be announced. The U.K. tour features Louis Hilyer, Sandra Duncan, Christopher Saul, Marianne Oldham, Robin Whiting, Alisdair Simpson and Diane Payne-Myers.
